Bloomerang CRM Mobile App | Process Donations with Tap to Pay

Updated over a week ago

When Tap to Pay is enabled, you can quickly process contactless payments for in-person donations.

Tap to Pay is available exclusively for customers who use Bloomerang Payments. To understand how Tap to Pay works, and for requirements, see What is Tap to Pay?

Before You Begin

Before you add donations, verify that Tap to Pay is enabled. When you log in to the Bloomerang CRM mobile app, Tap to Pay enables automatically if you use Bloomerang Payments and have a compatible iPhone or Android phone.

As a best practice, we recommend that you turn on your phone's Do Not Disturb setting before you process donations. If you make or receive a phone call on the device you're using to process payments, Tap to Pay is interrupted and error messages appear. If this happens, ignore the call. A few seconds after the call ends, you can continue to process the Tap to Pay donation.

Enable Tap to Pay on iOS

On iOS, you must link your Apple ID to Bloomerang Payments to use Tap to Pay. If Bloomerang Payments is connected and your device is compatible with Tap to Pay, the mobile app automatically prompts you to link your Apple ID.

You are prompted to link your Apple ID to Bloomerang Payments when you first log in with Bloomerang Payments enabled.

Tap Continue to enable Tap to Pay, or Use a Different Apple Account to switch Apple IDs.

To link a different Apple ID to Bloomerang Payments, delete and reinstall the Bloomerang CRM app, and select a different Apple ID on this screen.

Add a Donation and Use Tap to Pay

To add donations quickly, use the streamlined Quick Donations form.

Tip: You can also add a donation when you add a timeline entry from a constituent’s profile or from the dashboard. For more information, view Add Donations.

To add a Quick Donation and use Tap to Pay:

  1. Open the Bloomerang CRM mobile app.

  2. On the Dashboard screen, tap the Action button.

  3. Tap Quick Donation.

  4. Enter the Amount.
Tip: You can edit the amount on any Quick Donation screen.

  5. Tap Payment Method and select Credit Card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
For donors paying with a digital wallet, make sure to select Apple Pay or Google Pay. If you select Credit Card, the donation record in Bloomerang CRM shows Credit Card as the payment method rather than Apple Pay or Google Pay.

  6. Tap Input Type and select Tap to Pay.

  7. Tap Fund. Search for a fund or select one from the list. The default fund is the one you selected the last time you entered a Quick Donation.

  8. To configure optional settings, tap More. Configure any of these settings: Campaign, Appeal, Non-Deductible amount, or Acknowledged. You can also enter a Note.

  9. Tap Next.

  10. To find an existing constituent, tap Search Constituents and enter a name.

  11. To enter a new constituent, enter the First Name and Last Name.

  12. Tap Donate Now.

  13. On the Hold Here to Pay screen, ask the donor to hold their card or device horizontally against your iPhone screen. If you have an Android phone, ask the donor to hold their card or device against the back of your phone.

  14. To add another donation without leaving the form, tap Add Another Donation.

If nothing happens when the donor taps the card or device, view Troubleshoot Tap to Pay.

The donation appears on the constituent’s timeline. Make sure to refresh the timeline to see the donation. For Tap to Pay donations, the payment method is not saved to the constituent's account.

If you enabled online confirmation payment receipts and have v24.7.1 or higher of the mobile app, Bloomerang CRM emails an online payment confirmation receipt to the donor when the payment is processed.

After Your Event

If you add new constituents at your event, we recommend this best practice after your event:

  1. Review possible duplicate constituents.

  2. Merge duplicate constituents.

For information about how to find and merge duplicates, see Edit, Merge, and Delete Constituents.
