How Do Supporters Donate Online?

Updated this week

After you add an online giving form to your website, your donors can make these types of donations online:

  • One-time donations

  • Recurring donations

Tip: Donors can’t create pledges online, but you can create pledges for them in Bloomerang.

Donate Online

To make a one-time or recurring donation online, your supporters follow these steps:

  1. Go to your website.

  2. Go to your online giving form.
Note: If your website doesn’t have a security certificate, donors must click a Donate button, which opens a secure Bloomerang-hosted version of your form. Read more about this.

  3. Enter the Amount.

What Happens After an Online Donation?

Emails

Bloomerang CRM emails your donors when they donate online and when donation payments are automatically processed:

  • Confirmation email — Bloomerang emails a form confirmation to your donor. You can customize the confirmation email in the donation form settings. If you send separate acknowledgement emails, make sure the confirmation email has the purpose type Receipt, not Acknowledgement.

  • Receipt email — Bloomerang emails a receipt to your donor when a payment is auto-processed if you enable online payment confirmation receipts. You can customize receipts. You can also send a different type of receipt for different types of donations.

  • Acknowledgement email — Bloomerang emails an acknowledgement if you have journey automation or scheduled emails set up to send acknowledgements. Read about acknowledgements.

Constituent Information

After an online donation, Bloomerang CRM creates and updates constituent information:

If the donor selects to make the donation recurring, Bloomerang CRM saves the payment method to the constituent’s account for later use (for cards, EFT, and digital wallets).

Journey Automation

If you use journey automation, a donation can qualify a donor to enter a donation automation.
