Customize Confirmation Emails for Forms

Updated this week

When constituents use an online form to donate, join a membership program, register, or sign up for emails, they receive a default confirmation email. To send a custom email instead, first create a confirmation email and then add it to your form.

Create a Custom Confirmation Email

Custom confirmation emails can have a Receipt or Acknowledgement purpose. If you select Acknowledgement as the purpose, Bloomerang CRM automatically marks the transaction as acknowledged.

If you use Journey Automation to automate email acknowledgements:

  • Make sure custom confirmation emails have a purpose of Receipt, not Acknowledgement. This makes sure you email only one acknowledgement for a donation.

  • Create distinctly different content for donation receipts and acknowledgements so donors understand they aren't being charged twice. Include date and amount information only in receipts. In acknowledgements, focus on impact and relationship building. For more best practices, read About Confirmation Emails, Online Payment Confirmation Receipts, and Acknowledgements.

To create a custom confirmation email:

  1. When you select a template design:

    • For an online giving or event registration form, choose a template with type Transaction.

    • For for an email sign-up, volunteer activity, or constituent information form, or choose a template with type Interaction.

  2. After you create and edit your email, click the Details tab.

  3. Click the Purpose.

  4. Select Receipt or Acknowledgement.

  5. To save your email, click Save And.

  6. Select Go to Email Home.

Add a Custom Confirmation Email to a Form

To add a custom confirmation email to a form:

  1. Open an existing form or create a new one.

  2. From the Confirmation Email list, select an email. Only emails with a Receipt or Acknowledgement purpose appear.

  3. Click Next.

  4. Click Save and Preview.

  5. If you previously inserted the code snippet for the form on your website, click Back to List.

  6. If you haven't yet inserted the code snippet on your website, click Next.

  7. Insert the form script on your website. Constituents who use the form receive the custom email you selected.
