[Donation Forms] Form Settings: Donations

Updated over a week ago

In the Donations section of your form-level control panel, you can create and manage your donation amounts.

Pro tip: When you're ready to customize the look and feel of your form, including adding and removing elements, head to Form Builder.

Contents:

Amounts Tab

You land on the Amounts tab by default, where you can toggle on/off, add, edit, reorder, or delete donation amounts displayed on your form. The Other option gives donors a way to enter a custom donation amount.

To customize the text of the Other option, click Edit, and then type your preferred text in the Name field. Click Save Amount when you’re done.

Please note: If the name you enter is more than 7 characters, the custom amount button will be displayed on its own line on the public-facing form.

From this table, you can also see at a glance whether a donation amount appears on the one-time or recurring donation tab (or both!), and you can copy a URL for your form that will pre-select that donation amount.

To add a new donation amount, click Add New Amount. Enter your amount. If desired, you can enter a name and a description for your donation amount. This is useful if you're providing impact information for your donors.

Below the description section, you'll see Display Settings for the donation amount. This is how you'll designate where the donation amount should appear: on the one-time donation tab, on the recurring gift tab, or both!

Once you've added an image, it will appear in the interface.

Click Add New Amount when you're finished.

Your new amount will now appear in your main donation amount listing. You can toggle on/off, edit, reorder, or delete amounts at any time.

Settings Tab

This is where you'll configure settings related to the donation types you set up on your form. You'll see four sections (shown collapsed below).

  • General Settings: Houses settings for Multi-Restriction Giving, Express Donate, Smart Amounts, Matching Gifts, individual/company donations, and minimum/maximum donation amounts

  • Recurring Settings: Set up Sustaining Gifts or Giving Plans, choose your recurring donation frequencies, and optionally offer a way for donors to add their own start/end dates to recurring gifts

  • Additional Conversion Opportunities: Enable prompts that encourage donors to make their one-time gifts recurring, turn on Abandoned Gift Reminders, and decide whether to preselect a donation amount

  • Appearance Settings: Decide the aspect ratio when using donation amount images

General Settings

Donations General Settings.png

By default, your donation form will display the donation amounts that you’ve configured on the Amounts tab.

The Enable Multi-Restriction Giving option changes the look of your form and offers a way for donors to direct their support to one or more restrictions.

Enable_Multi-Restriction_Giving_toggle.png

Please note: When Multi-Restriction Giving is enabled, any images, descriptions, and names associated with Amounts will no longer display on the form. Only the restriction names, descriptions, and images, along with their associated amounts will display.

Check out this article to learn more about configuring restrictions with Multi-Restriction Giving.

Express Donate

If you have the Giving Essentials or Giving+ package, you'll see a toggle to Enable Express Donate. Express Donate is a feature that makes it possible for donors to use a “digital wallet” (Apple Pay, PayPal, or Venmo) as the first step of the donation process.

Smart Amounts

If you have the Giving Essentials or Giving+ package, you'll see a toggle to Enable Smart Amounts. Smart Amounts is a feature that uses machine learning to auto-populate donation amounts on the form based on visitor data and historical giving trends across the Bloomerang Fundraising platform.

Please note: Multi-Restriction Giving is not currently compatible with Smart Amounts. If you’ve enabled Smart Amounts for your donation form, you will not be able to enable Multi-Restriction Giving and vice versa.

Matching Gifts

Enable Employer Matching Gifts toggled off.png

If you have a Double the Donation or HEPdata account, you can enable matching gifts on your donation forms and offer donors a way to search for matching gifts right on the form.

When you toggle the option on, you'll see options to Activate the Double the Donation and HEPdata services.

Choose the service you'd like to use, click Activate, and follow the instructions. You can read more about setting up Double the Donation here. To read more about setting up HEPdata, head here.

Individual and Company Donations

Next, you'll see options to allow individual and/or company donations. At least one of these options must be selected in order for donations to be accepted on your form.

Please note: The Companies setting does not affect matching gifts.

If you select both options, text boxes will appear to let you customize the wording on the public-facing form. The default wording is "I'm an individual" for Individuals and "I'm a company" for Companies.

If you would like to collect first and last names from company donors, check the box labeled Collect a contact name with company contributions.

Minimum and Maximum Donations

If you'd like to set minimum and maximum donation amounts for your form, input your desired amounts in these boxes. Use the toggles to decide whether to display the amounts on your public-facing form.

Recurring Settings

In the Recurring Settings section, you can set up:

  • The type of recurring giving you'd like on your form: Sustaining Gifts or Giving Plans

  • Recurring donation frequencies

  • The ability for donors to add a start and/or end date for recurring gifts

Donations Recurring Settings.png

Types of Recurring Giving

If you'd like to offer recurring giving on your form, you'll need to select which type you'd like to offer: Sustaining Gifts, Giving Plans: Predefined, or Giving Plans: Flexible.

Sustaining Gifts are simple recurring gifts. Donors select a dollar amount on your form, then choose a frequency at which they'd like donations to occur. Your frequency options are:

  • Weekly

  • Every Other Week

  • Monthly

  • Quarterly

  • Semiannually

  • Annually

The system default recurring option is Monthly. To change that, use the Default Recurring Frequency drop-down.

Default.png

Please note: If you're only offering monthly recurring donations as a frequency, the recurring tab on your donation form will say "Monthly."

Monthly.png

If you're offering multiple recurring donation frequencies, the tab will say "Ongoing."

Ongoing.png

Allowing Start/End Dates

For both Sustaining Gifts and Giving Plans, you can allow donors to specify a start and/or end date for their recurring gifts.

Please note: With Flexible Giving Plans, donors will only be able to specify a start date because the end date will be determined by the number and frequency of installments.

If you toggle on one of these options, you can then decide if a date should be required or optional.

Additional Conversion Opportunities

In the Additional Conversion Opportunities section, you'll find settings that are designed to increase conversions on your forms, starting with handy prompts you can enable and customize to encourage one-time donors to make their gifts recurring.

Recurring Nudge and Recurring Upgrade

Please note: You won't see the recurring prompts if you've disabled one-time gifts on the form. Enable or disable one-time gifts in the General Form Settings area.

When enabled, the Recurring Nudge displays a simple callout in the Choose Your Gift section of your form. The language in the nudge can be customized in Form Builder if desired.

When enabled, the Recurring Upgrade appears as an additional step on the form and asks donors to consider making their one-time gift into a recurring gift. You can customize the text in the modal in Form Builder.

Configuring Additional Settings for the Recurring Upgrade

Once the Recurring Upgrade is enabled, you can customize a couple of donation option buttons that donors will see.

First, you can offer smaller recurring donation suggestions to encourage conversions. You can set up two recurring upgrade suggestions that are based on a percentage of the full donation amount.

Enable Recurring Upgrade settings.png

To customize, click the drop-down menu in each field to reveal the available options. For percentage amount options, you may choose 100% of the one-time donation, 75%, 50%, or 25%.

For the frequency drop-down menu, the only options you can select in this menu are based on the recurring frequencies you’ve selected in the Recurring Settings area.

To add another recurring donation setting, click Add New Recurring Suggestion and follow the steps above to select your preferences.

Recurring_Modal_Suggestions.gif

Additionally, you can choose to only display the Upgrade Prompt if the donation is within a certain threshold. For example, you can choose not to display the modal if the donation is more than $500.

To enable, select Set Display Limit.

A new field will appear where you can type in the desired amount.

Caveats

There are some caveats to be aware of regarding the Recurring Upgrade with certain payment methods and conditional fields.

The recurring upgrade step will not display when donors opt to pay with a digital wallet (Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo).

Additionally, donors will not be sent back to answer any conditional fields that weren’t applicable before they switched to a recurring donation through the prompt.

For example, if you enable required start and end dates for recurring donations or have conditional custom fields that only become applicable after the donor switches to the new recurring donation amount, those fields will remain unanswered.

Abandoned Gift Reminders

Abandoned Gift Reminders are a great way to increase your donation conversions by reminding donors to complete their gifts. When enabled, donors who select a donation amount but then scroll away from or close your donation form will see a small popup nudge encouraging them to return to the donation form and submit their gift. You can also enable email reminders for donors who would like to provide an email address and be reminded to complete their gift later.

Preselect Amount

Finally, you can preselect a donation amount for your form. Visitors to the form will see this amount already selected to nudge them toward giving that amount.

Preselected gift.png

When you toggle on Preselect Amount, you’ll see drop-down menus to Preselect One-Time Amount and Preselect Recurring Amount.

Default Settings.png

The amounts you see in these drop-downs reflect the active donation amounts you’ve configured in the Amounts tab. The “Other” amount will not appear in the drop-down.

If you have Giving Plans enabled in your Recurring Settings, you’ll see a Preselect Giving Plan drop-down instead of the Preselect Recurring Amount drop-down.

Preselect Giving Plan drop-down.png

Please note: If you have Smart Amounts enabled, your selections here will not affect Smart Amounts, but you can still preselect a donation amount for when Smart Amounts are not available.

Appearance Settings

In the Appearance Settings section, you can set your donation amount images style. If you're not using donation amount images, you can ignore this section. Donation amount images will only appear on your form if you upload an image to individual donation amounts in the Donations section of the control panel.

Plans Tab

Giving Plans are recurring gifts with a fixed length of time, and payments are made in equal installments. There are two types of Giving Plans: Predefined and Flexible. Predefined Giving Plans are ones that you set up and allow donors to choose from. Flexible Giving Plans offer the donor more flexibility in determining how they’d like to set up their gift installments.

If you select either of the Giving Plan options in the Recurring Settings, a new Plans tab will appear in the Donations section.

The Plans tab is where you’ll set up your Giving Plans.

Please note: The plans you set up are not shared between the two types of plans. In other words, if you set up some Predefined plans and then switch to Flexible plans, the Predefined plans you set up will not be available. But if you switch back to Predefined plans, the plans you previously created will be waiting for you.

Giving Plans: Predefined

To set up your Predefined Giving Plans, click the Plans tab. You'll see a default option toggled on that gives donors a way to create their own plans. You can toggle this off if desired. You can edit the Create Your Own Plan text by clicking Edit.

Create Your Own Predefined.png

Keep in mind that, while customizable, the Create Your Own plans are dependent on your recurring settings.

That means the only amounts your donors will see are the recurring amounts you’ve set up in the Amounts tab. And the only frequencies they will see are the ones you’ve selected in the Recurring Settings area.

Giving_Plan_Options.png

Also, if you toggle on Allow donor to specify a Start Date or Allow donor to specify an End Date for Giving Plans in your Recurring Settings, you can decide whether a start or end date will be required for anyone setting up a custom plan.

The Amount field is where you'll enter the amount of each installment in your donation plan. The Repeat field is the frequency of the donation, and the number field is where you'll select how many installments will be in the plan. You can toggle on the option for the plan to start on the current day. If toggled off, you can choose a start date.

In the example below, the donor would be giving monthly installments of $50 for ten months for a total donation of $500.

In the example below, the donor would be giving a total donation of $500. The default setting would be 12 monthly installments of $41.67 each, but the donor will have the option to choose any number of installments between 1 and 12, paid monthly or weekly.
