About Groups

Updated this week

To increase donor engagement, giving, and retention, use groups to segment your Bloomerang CRM data. This process is known as donor segmentation.

Groups are subsets of constituents who share a common trait. For example, create groups based on donation amount, length of donor relationship, geography, engagement level, or other traits important to your organization.

To learn about best practices for donor segmentation, read Donor Segmentation: Comprehensive Guide + Tips For Success in the Bloomerang blog.

Manage Groups

To get you started with donor segmentation, Bloomerang CRM automatically adds several groups. To save you time, Bloomerang CRM manages some of those groups for you.

You can also add groups and group members based on your unique knowledge of your constituents. To review your donor segmentation, view a list of all groups.

Analyze Groups

View analytics for each group that include a revenue and transaction summary, a month-over-month giving chart, and demographic graphs.

Use analytics to identify donation cycles, trends, and demographics for each group. With this information, you can gauge your fundraising efforts, set goals, and personalize donor communication. For example, view the group analytics to understand the average gift size and when donors are likely to give.

Report on Groups

Run reports for groups to track data that is important to your organization. You can also run reports to efficiently create or modify groups.

For example, you decide to identify lapsed donors who you might recapture. Create a report and add a filter for the Lapsed Donor group. Add more filters to refine the constituent list. You could add filters for communication channel preference and engagement level. With this information, you might email lapsed donors with a low engagement level and call recently lapsed donors with a high engagement level. You can add this list of constituents to a new or existing group.

Send Personalized Communication to Groups

To strengthen donor relationships, communicate with groups in ways that feel personal and relevant to group members. In Journey Automation, you can create email drip campaigns personalized for group members. When you schedule emails and generate letters, you can include or exclude groups in filters.

For example, use groups to:

  • Call new donors and send a welcome kit.

  • Send birthday cards and volunteer opportunities to recurring donors.

  • Send a survey to lapsed donors.

  • Invite prospective donors to free events.

  • Send handwritten notes to board members.

  • Encourage volunteers to volunteer again and to become donors.

  • Invite supporters who live in your area to an in-person event; invite others to watch the live stream.

  • Inspire supporters with a cool or cold engagement level to reconnect with your organization.
