Membership Groups

Updated this week

If your subscription includes membership management, Bloomerang automatically creates and manages a group for each membership level. Open the group to quickly view a list of all active members in that level.

Membership groups add another layer of donor segmentation to your data. You can view donation analytics and run reports for membership groups. Include merge fields for membership groups in emails and letters. Automate multi-step email campaigns for specific groups.

You can also customize and schedule renewal reminders for each membership group. You might send an email or letter to members with renewal dates in the next 60 days who haven’t selected to autorenew. To encourage renewals, personalize the communication with information about member benefits at that membership level.

To learn how groups and donor segmentation benefit your organization, see Groups.

About Membership Groups

When you create a membership level, Bloomerang CRM automatically creates and manages a group with the same name. For example, if you create three membership levels named Gold, Silver, and Bronze, Bloomerang CRM automatically creates three groups named Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

To view a list of all membership groups, click Groups from the navigation menu. This list also includes all other types of groups in Bloomerang CRM.

Membership Group Management

To save you time, Bloomerang CRM automatically manages membership groups for you.

For example, a constituent joins the Gold membership level online. Or, you manually add a new Gold membership to the constituent’s profile. In both cases, Bloomerang CRM automatically adds that member to the Gold group.

Each membership group includes all constituents with a current membership at that level. Bloomerang CRM automatically removes members from the group who have a lapsed or canceled membership.

Members may also belong to all other Blooomerang-managed groups. For example, a lapsed donor who joins the Gold membership level now appears in all of these groups:

  • Gold

  • Current

  • Recaptured

Member Count and Households

The member count is the total number of constituents in the group. Constituents who are part of a household are counted as individuals.

To see the member count, you can:

  • Click Groups to open the Group Summary page. The member count appears next to each group name.

  • On the Memberships page, click the membership program. The Members column shows the member count.

  • View the Group Details page for a specific group. The Group Members heading includes the member count.

For more information about how the member count is calculated, read View Group Analytics.

If someone in a household joins your membership program, only that constituent is a member. Membership information appears on the constituent profile for only the constituent who joined the membership program. Membership information doesn't appear on the household profile.

View Analytics and Members for Membership Group

On the Group Details page for each group, view this information:

  • Analytics — Revenue, transaction, and demographic information. Analytics include membership payments and all other types of transactions. Analytics can help you gauge the success of your membership program and make decisions. For example, use analytics to understand when members are most likely to join, which can help you choose dates for a membership drive. To understand how analytics are calculated, view Group Analytics.

  • Group Members — The member count and a list of all active members at this membership level

Open the Group Details page from any of these pages in Bloomerang CRM:

  • Click Groups from the navigation menu and then click the group name.

  • On the Memberships page, click the membership program. In the Members column, click the number.

  • On a constituent’s profile, click Profile and go to the Groups tile. Click a group name.

Changes to Membership Levels That Affect Groups

Some changes to membership level settings affect membership groups:

  • If you update the membership level name, the group name updates automatically.

  • If you deactivate a membership level, the membership group remains. Bloomerang CRM continues to automatically update the group membership and analytics.

  • If you delete a membership level, Bloomerang CRM automatically deletes the membership group.
