When you create an email, you can add:
Merge fields — Placeholders for personalized data. For example, to greet a recipient by name, insert the First Name merge field at the beginning of your email.
Email filters — Criteria that you select to build the email recipient list.
The email type determines which merge fields and filters are available. If you change the email type, the available merge fields and filters change.

Change the Email Type
When you first create an email, you select an email type:

The email type determines the merge fields and filters available for an email. You can change the email type.

Households in Filters
When you build an email in Bloomerang CRM, you can change the filter settings so only the Head of Household receives your mass email. For more information, read How Do I Email Only the Head of Household?
Automatic Exclusions
Emails exclude inactive or deceased constituents by default. Transaction-based emails also exclude soft credits. You can remove these filters if needed.
Bloomerang CRM skips sending emails to constituents who:
Do not have a valid email address.
Have unsubscribed from this template's email interests or opted out of all emails.
Do not have values or have more than one value for a merge field in the email.
