Channels and purposes indicate how and why an action was done. You can assign channels and purposes to interactions, tasks, emails, and letters. Choose the channel or purpose that most closely matches your task.
The engagement level calculation considers channels and purposes, which means you can't edit or create new channels and purposes. You can add custom fields to interactions.
Channels
Channel describes how the task is being done:
Email — One-time or personal emails
In Person — Face-to-face meetings, including events and volunteer activity
Mail — Physical mail
Mass Email — One email sent to many constituents
Phone — Phone calls
Social Media — Social media posts
Text Message — Text messages via mobile devices
Video Call — Calls with smaller groups
Webinar — Larger online presentations
Website — Through your organization's website
Other — If no other options are a good fit
Purposes
Purpose describes the primary intent of the task:
Acknowledgement — To thank a constituent for single donations. This Purpose option changes the Acknowledged flag on a transaction from No to Yes.
Impact/Cultivation — To tell a constituent how their donations or efforts are helping, and to cultivate relationships with constituents
Newsletter — To update constituents on recent organizational news
Pledge Reminder — To remind a constituent of a monetary promise
Receipt — For donation receipts. You can use this option for year-end tax purposes. This option doesn't change the acknowledged flag on a transaction.
Solicitation — To ask the constituent for a donation
Special Event — For all event-related activities
Volunteer Activity — For all volunteer-related activities
Welcome — To welcome a new donor or an existing donor who has signed up to be a recurring donor
Other — If no other options are a good fit
Constituents can’t unsubscribe from transaction emails, which are emails with one of these purposes: Acknowledgement, Receipt, or Pledge Reminder.
Benevon Purposes
These purposes are available only with Bloomerang for Benevon:
Benevon Point of Entry — Related to a Point of Entry event
Benevon Follow-Up — Related to the Point of Entry follow-up call
Benevon Ask Event — Related to an Ask event
Benevon One-on-one Ask — Related to personally asking a constituent for a donation
Benevon Ongoing Cultivation — Related to deepening the relationship with the constituent
