Advanced filters are possible with the Matches Multiple Filters filter. This filter is like putting parentheses around some criteria. You might need this filter when mixing
And and Or criteria or when working with households.
Mix of And and Or
Sometimes you may need a filter that mixes And and Or criteria. For example, you want to see constituents who live in Indiana, but only if they are volunteers, board members, or donors. To get the correct results, use the Matches Multiple Filters filter.
The filters in Figure 1 return incorrect results. These filters return constituents who live in Indiana and are volunteers or board members. They also return constituents with transactions.

Figures 2 and 3 show the correct filters. Here is how you set the Matches Multiple Filters filter:
Click Add Filter.
Click Matches Multiple Filters.
In the Constituent Filters area, in the Include section, click Add Filter.
Click the custom field that tracks how constituents are involved with your organization. This example uses Attributes.
Click Volunteer and Member.
Click OK.
In the Include area, click Or.
Click Has Any Transactions.
Click OK until you are back on the main reporting screen.

Next to Is a Specific Constituent, click And.
Click Has Addresses and add a filter for Indiana.
Click OK until you are back on the main reporting screen.

Households
Grouping filters is also useful when you want to see all members of a household when at least one member matches your filters. For instance, you want to see all the constituents in a household where a member volunteered and gave money.
In this example, Mary Jane Watson gave $100 and volunteered. She is in the Watson household. You want to see the Watson household members in the results.
The filters in Figure 4 look for constituents who volunteered and donated. It does not take households into account. The results show only Mary Jane Watson.
Figure 5 uses the Matches Multiple Filters option. This filter is looking for households where a member volunteered and gave money. However, the report returns all the constituents in those households. Notice that in Figure 6 the filters show as one filter.
Also notice that all the Watson household members are returned, as expected.
