A DAFpay gift is recorded in Bloomerang Fundraising (formerly Qgiv by Bloomerang) the moment a donor approves it, but the money arrives days or weeks later from the donor's donor-advised fund (DAF) sponsor. This article explains the following:
How a DAFpay gift's status changes
How to find DAFpay gifts in your transactions and reports
How fees and GiftAssist are calculated
How your organization gets paid
How DAFpay gifts sync to Bloomerang CRM.

Understand DAFpay Gift Statuses
A DAFpay gift has two statuses in Bloomerang Fundraising:
Offline: The donor submits a grant request, and the gift is recorded with a DAFpay payment method. Your organization hasn't received the money yet.
Accepted: Chariot has confirmed that your organization received the grant.
How a gift moves from Offline to Accepted depends on how the DAF sponsor paid you:
Bank account (ACH, eCheck): Chariot knows when the payment is sent and updates the gift automatically.
Check: Chariot knows the check was mailed but not when you received it. You must mark the grant as Received in your Chariot account. Chariot then updates the gift status in Bloomerang Fundraising.
No Chariot account: If your organization hasn't claimed a Chariot account, you can't mark a check as Received, so the gift stays Offline.
Important: A DAFpay gift that stays Offline isn't necessarily a problem. It might mean the check hasn't arrived yet, or that you haven't marked it Received in Chariot. We recommend that you don't manually verify or void a DAFpay gift the way you would a cash or check gift.
If a DAF sponsor cancels a grant, Chariot notifies Bloomerang Fundraising and the gift is voided. No cancellation email is sent to you or the donor.
Find DAFpay Gifts in Transactions Reports
Use the Transactions report to track DAFpay gifts and their current status.
To find DAFpay gifts in Transactions reports:
In the main navigation, hover over Reporting, and then click Transactions.
Filter the payment method to DAFpay:
Click Advanced Filtering.
Click the Select Filters to Apply search box, and then select Payment Method. A list of payment methods appears.
Click DAFpay.
(Optional) In the Status filter, select Offline to see gifts you haven't received yet, Accepted to see gifts Chariot confirmed, or both.
To open a gift, click its Transaction ID. The transaction details show the following information, along with other transaction details:
The amount the donor submitted
The GiftAssist amount, if the donor added one
DAF Sponsor
DAFpay Tracking ID
External Grant ID
Fund ID
You also receive your standard donation notification email for each DAFpay gift. The email shows DAFpay as the payment method. To learn more, read Org-Level Notifications.
Understand GiftAssist and Rounding
DAF sponsors send grants in whole dollars. Bloomerang Fundraising rounds the total submitted to the sponsor down to the nearest whole dollar. For example, a donor who enters a $104.25 gift sees a note on the form that their grant will be rounded down to $104.
Donors can add GiftAssist to a DAFpay gift. How GiftAssist is calculated depends on your payment processor:
Bloomerang Payments: Bloomerang Fundraising calculates GiftAssist for you based on the DAFpay processing fee.
Worldpay and other processors: GiftAssist uses the percentage or flat amount you set for the form.
When GiftAssist is included, the total is still rounded down to the whole dollar, so the GiftAssist amount you receive might be less than the calculated amount.
Important: If the donor changes the gift amount in the DAFpay payment confirmation window, GiftAssist is removed and the gift is submitted as a whole-dollar donation with no GiftAssist.
Understand Fees and Payouts
Each DAFpay gift carries a 4.85% processing fee. Chariot collects the fee, so DAFpay fees don't appear on your Bloomerang fee statements, and DAFpay grants don't appear in your Bloomerang Payments settlements or batches.
How you receive a grant, and how the fee is collected, depends on whether your organization has claimed a Chariot account:
Claimed Chariot account: The DAF sponsor pays your organization directly, by bank (ACH) if the sponsor supports ACH and you set it up in Chariot, or by check mailed to the address in your Chariot account. Chariot bills the processing fee to your account monthly, after the grants are received.
No Chariot account: When a donor makes a DAFpay gift, Chariot emails your organization an invitation to claim an account. If you don't claim it within five days, Chariot mails you a check through the DAFpay Network, with the processing fee already deducted from the grant.
We recommend that you claim a Chariot account so you can manage payouts, set up ACH, and mark check grants as received. To claim an account, go to https://dashboard.givechariot.com/signup. When your organization doesn't have a Chariot account, a signup link also appears in the DAFpay setting in your form’s donation settings.
Match a Grant to a Gift
When a grant arrives, match it to the gift in Bloomerang Fundraising by the donor's name, the DAF sponsor, and the gift amount. The grant's paperwork from the sponsor usually includes a Chariot tracking ID or the sponsor's own grant ID.
Note: The sponsor's grant paperwork doesn't show the restriction the donor selected on your form. The restriction is still recorded on the transaction in Bloomerang Fundraising.
Understand DAFpay and Matching Challenges
A DAFpay gift counts toward a matching challenge when the gift is Accepted, not when the donor submits it. This works the same way as verified cash and check gifts. The donor's confirmation page states the gift will be matched if funds are still available when the grant arrives.
If you don't want a large DAFpay gift to use up a matching challenge's pool, void the match for that gift:
Click Reporting.
On the Matching Gifts tile, click View Report.
Click the link in the ID column. The Transaction Details page opens.
Click Void Transaction.
On the confirmation screen, click Yes, void this transaction.
Understand DAFpay and Thermometers
Pending DAFpay gifts follow the form setting Include unverified offline and unfulfilled matching donations in fundraising thermometers. When the setting is enabled, pending DAFpay gifts count toward your thermometer. When the setting is disabled, pending DAFpay gifts count only after they're Accepted.
Sync DAFpay Gifts to Bloomerang CRM
If your organization uses both Bloomerang Fundraising and Bloomerang CRM, DAFpay gifts sync to Bloomerang CRM when they're Accepted. Pending gifts don't sync, and Bloomerang CRM can't show a pending DAFpay gift.
When an accepted DAFpay gift syncs, Bloomerang CRM:
Creates a constituent for the DAF sponsor if one doesn't exist, and creates the donor's constituent if needed.
Adds a Donor-Advised Fund relationship on the sponsor's constituent page and a Donor-Advised Fund Contributor relationship on the donor's constituent page.
Records the gift as a donation on the DAF sponsor's timeline.
Adds a soft credit for the gift on the donor's timeline.
The sync follows your integration settings. To learn more, read Bloomerang CRM and Track Indirect Donations Made Through Donor-Advised Funds and Foundations.
