When you filter the Volunteers list, you can decide whether a volunteer must match any of your selections or all of them.
This article describes the two instances when you set that logic:
Within a single filter that has more than one option.
Across a view that has more than one filter.
To understand how a view stores filters and columns, read Create and Manage Views on the Volunteers List.
Note: Filter combination controls apply only to the organization-level Volunteers list.
Before You Begin
Your role determines whether you can open and use filters on this page:
Full Organization Managers can apply filters.
Read-Only Full Organization Managers can apply filters but can’t save them as a view.
Limited Organization Managers, Opportunity Managers, and Role Managers do not have access to the Volunteers page or its filters.
Choose And or Or Within a Single Filter
For some filters, you can select more than one option at a time. When you do, choose whether a volunteer needs to match any option you pick or all of them.
Any of these (OR) returns volunteers who match at least one of the options. We suggest you select this option when you want to widen your list.
All of these (AND) returns only volunteers who match every option. We suggest you use this option when you want to narrow your list.
For example, when you select a Qualifications filter, you can choose to show volunteers with both Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, or volunteers with either one.
To set the logic within a filter:
If you are in more than one organization, make sure you are in the right one.
From the navigation menu, click People, and then click Volunteers.
On the Volunteers list, click Filters.
Select a filter category, or click Expand All to expand the options for all filter categories.
Select a filter.
In the Condition section, select Any of these (OR) or All of these (AND).
Select the options you want to filter by. To select all options, select the All checkbox.
Click Add Filter.
Choose And or Or Across a View
Apply more than one filter to a view to narrow your volunteer search. When you apply multiple filters, a section appears showing the number of active filters.
In the active filters section, when you click Expand, the section shows each filter and a connector tag between each filter. The connector sets how those filters combine:
And returns volunteers who match both filters.
Or returns volunteers who match either filter.
To change the connector, click the tag:
Click And to change it to Or.
Click Or to change it back to And.
For example, apply both a Date Joined Organization filter and an Opportunity Status filter. Join them with And to find volunteers who both joined before a date and are in an opportunity. Click the pill to change it to Or to find volunteers who match either filter.
Tip: When you have three or more filters, you can set the connector between each pair of filters on its own. For example, join two filters by And and a third one by Or.
To view and manage the active filters section:
In the active filters section, click Expand to show all active filters. To hide the active filters section, click Collapse.
To remove one filter, click the X on its selection.
To remove all filters, click Clear filters.
To change the connector tag between filters, click And or Or to change it to the other one. The filters automatically separate into subsections based on their connections to other filters.
Tip: To save your filter changes as a new view you can return to later, create a new view.
