How Searches Work
For most types of searches, Bloomerang CRM uses multiple matching methods:
Standard: Exact matches
Fuzzy: Close matches. A search for Ann also finds Anne, Anna, Annie, and Annwar.
Wildcard: Character replacement matches with an asterisk (*). A search for Jose Garcia searches for Jose* OR Garcia*.
For example, if you enter Jose Garcia, you see standard, fuzzy, and wildcard matches: Jose Garcia, Joseph Garci, Jo Garcy, Alice Garcian, and Joseph Miller.
Searches aren't case sensitive. This means you can enter uppercase letters, lowercase letters, or a both.
How Search Filters Work
Find constituents quickly with the default All filter. Select a different filter to search only certain fields in constituent records.
This list explains how constituent search filters work.
Filter Name | Constituent Fields Searched | Minimum Number of Characters |
All | All fields in this list | 3 for most searches |
Name | First name, last name, full name, informal name, formal name, or envelope name | 2 for two-character names (exact matches only); 3 otherwise |
Address | Address and city (includes incomplete and bad addresses) | 3 |
Email addresses | 3 | |
Account Number | Bloomerang CRM account number | 1 |
Employer | Employer (not the relationship information) | 3 |
Phone | Phone numbers | 3 |
Includes fuzzy and wildcard searches.
Email searches include a wildcard search after the first three characters in the email username. You cannot search for only the domain name. To find constituents by domain name only, you can run a report.
Search Best Practices
For effective searches, use these tips:
Enter at least three characters. This is the minimum amount of characters needed for most searches. If you enter fewer characters, your search results are less precise. For example, if you enter two numbers, search results include constituents with phone numbers that include those numbers.
For name and account searches, you can enter fewer characters. See the Constituent Search section on this page.
To search for an exact phrase, enclose the words in quotation marks. "John Smith" shows exact matches for that phrase.
To run a wildcard search, use an asterisk. Sm*h searches for any word with characters between Sm and h. The term Smi* searches for any word beginning with Smi.
Search for Constituents and Households
Search for constituents on any page in Bloomerang CRM. Results include individuals, organizations, and households.
To search for constituents:
At the top of any Bloomerang CRM page, find the Search for Constituents box.
(Optional) Next to the Search for Constituents box, select a filter.
In the Search for Constituents text box, enter a search term. Search suggestions appear as you type.
To see a constituent record that appears in the search suggestions, click the constituent.
To see a list of all search results, click See Results.
Search Results
While you enter characters, a short list of suggested constituents appears automatically. The short list includes up to five constituents and includes the constituent name, account number, and email address.
To see more details, or to see the full list, click See Results. Search results are ordered based on the match strength.
To refine your list of search results, you can sort the list by column or apply filters. For information about how to manage search results, see Constituent Dashboard.
