[Donation Forms] What Donors See

Donors move through the same required steps on a Bloomerang Fundraising donation form, whether you use the single-step form or the multistep form.

This article describes each step of that donation experience so you know what your donors see: Choose Your Gift, Your Details, Payment Details, and the donation confirmation page. It also describes what visitors experience when your donation form is closed.

Choose Your Gift Step

The first step donors complete on a Bloomerang Fundraising donation form is choosing their gift.

Gift Type

If recurring donations are enabled on your donation form, donors choose between two tabs:

  • One-Time — For a one-off donation.

  • Ongoing — For an ongoing gift the donor sets up.

Gift type selections

Gift Amount

Donors choose their gift size on the Choose Your Gift step. You can set donation amounts for donors to choose from, and you can include an Other option so donors can enter their own gift amount.

Express Donate

If Express Donate is enabled on your form, donors see digital wallet buttons on this first step. A donor who taps one confirms the payment on their device and goes straight to the confirmation page, skipping the Your Details and Payment Details steps. The wallet supplies their name, email, and address.

Choose Your Gift step with Express Donate enabled and options for Apple Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.

The wallet buttons are a shortcut, not a replacement. After the donor pays, they can choose to enter more information, such as custom fields the form has.

Which wallets appear depends on your payment processor, the donor's device, and the wallets the donor has set up. Forms that use Bloomerang Payments include Apple Pay and Google Pay by default. To learn more, read Express Donate.

Matching Challenges

When a matching challenge is live for a donation form, a call-to-action for that challenge appears on your form.

This call-to-action for your matching challenge includes:

  • A countdown that tells the donor when the matching challenge ends, and to help create a sense of urgency.

  • How the match is calculated:

    • For a 0.5:1 match, +$[amount] appears.

    • For a 1:1 match, x2 appears

    • For a 2:1 match, x3 appears.

    • For a 3:1 match, x4 appears.

  • Gift amount, which is the amount your donor chose to give.

  • Impact amount, which is the total amount that includes the match.Amount screen with a message that the gift will be matched

When the matching challenge is no longer live, either because the end date has passed or the total contribution was reached, the call-to-action no longer appears on the donation form.

Recurring Nudge

If you have the recurring nudge enabled on your donation form, donors might be prompted to consider making their one-time gift a recurring donation instead.List of donation amounts followed by this note: Multiple your impact. Make it monthly!"

Restrictions

Donors select a restriction on the Choose Your Gift step. Adding a restriction to your donation form is optional, so donors don't see this option if you haven't specified restrictions for your form.
Restriction selected

Dedications

Donors can dedicate their gift to someone. When a donor selects the Dedication checkbox, a menu opens for the donor to enter the dedication information. You choose where the Dedication checkbox appears on your donation form: on the first step, later in the donation process, or not at all.Dedication selected

GiftAssist

GiftAssist is an optional checkbox on your donation form. When a donor selects the GiftAssist checkbox, a fee is added to their donation to help offset processing fees and save your organization money. When you include GiftAssist on your form, a tool tip explains to donors how GiftAssist works.

After donors choose their gift, they click Give to move to the Your Details step.GiftAssist selected; the added amount appears

Your Details Step

On the Your Details step of a Bloomerang Fundraising donation form, donors enter their personal information.

The Your Details step asks for the donor's name first. You can also customize your donation form to accept donations from companies.

Donors who want to remain anonymous can select the anonymity checkbox. Because you still collect donor details to complete the gift, a tool tip explains how the anonymity option works.

After a donor enters their name, the section where donors enter their address is personalized with that name.

Donors then enter their email address and mailing address.

Optionally, you can ask donors to share the name of their Employer. The Employer entry is helpful if your organization hosts matching gift campaigns.

The last option on the Your Details step is a checkbox donors can select to opt in to communications from your organization. When a donor selects this checkbox, they're telling you they want to hear from you, so you can add them to your email newsletter, call them, and invite them to events.

Donors then click Continue to move to the Payment Details step.Donor's contact info and marketing email opt-in

Payment Details Step

The Payment Details step of a Bloomerang Fundraising donation form shows the amount of the donor's gift first, so the donation total is clear before the donor pays.

If the donor is a repeat donor with saved payment methods, the Payment Details step shows those saved payment methods. The donor can choose a saved payment method, or give using one of the payment methods your form accepts. Your donation form can accept multiple payment methods.Payment method

The payment methods a donor sees depend on the payment processor your organization uses.

Credit Card Payments

To give by credit card on a Bloomerang Fundraising donation form, donors enter their card number, expiration date, and CVV/Security Code. CVV stands for card verification value.

If you use Bloomerang Payments as your payment processor, donors also enter their Zip Code.

If you use another payment processor, donors confirm whether their mailing address is the same as their billing address. If the two addresses are different, donors clear the checkbox and enter their billing address.Credit card entry fields

Bank Account Payments

Bank account payments, also called ACH (Automated Clearing House) or eCheck payments, are another popular payment method on a Bloomerang Fundraising donation form.

If you use Bloomerang Payments, donors can make a bank account payment in two ways:

  • Log in to their bank directly from the donation form to verify ownership of the account.

  • Enter the routing number and account number manually. A donor who can't or doesn't want to connect their bank account directly clicks Enter bank details manually.

Bank account list

If you don't use Bloomerang Payments, donors give from a bank account by entering their bank's routing number and account number and then confirming their billing address on the Bank tab.

PayPal Payments

Your organization can also include PayPal as a payment method on your donation form. Donors click Donate With PayPal to go to PayPal and complete their gift. Bloomerang Fundraising still captures their donation information through your donation form.

After donors select their preferred payment method, they click Give to complete their gift.

Moving Between Steps on a Multistep Form

On a multistep donation form, donors can return to earlier steps before they complete a gift. Donors can select a step in the progress bar.

Donation Confirmation Page

After donors complete their gift, the donation confirmation page opens. On this page, donors can preview their donation receipt. Bloomerang Fundraising also emails the receipt to the email address the donor entered on the Your Details step.

Donors who gave through Express Donate see a short set of questions below their receipt on this page. These are the fields they skipped on the form, such as phone number, employer, and any custom fields. Answering them is optional.

To view the receipt on the donation confirmation page, donors click the arrow or the Your Receipt text.

The donation confirmation page also includes social sharing tools, so donors can share your donation form with friends and family on social media and by email. If the donor created a Donor Account, a link to that account appears with the receipt on the donation confirmation page.

Donation Confirmation Page for Donations with Matching Challenges

On the donation confirmation page, the gift amount appears, which is the amount the donor was charged. The impact amount also appears, which is the gift amount plus the matching challenge.

The receipt shows the amount charged to the donor, and includes a note that says, [Sponsor] matched your gift with an extra [match amount]!.

What Donors Experience When Your Form Is Closed

When you close a donation form, its web address still works, so visitors can still reach the form through old links, QR (Quick Response) codes, or bookmarks. What visitors experience depends on your form's General settings:

  • If you set up a redirect — Visitors who open the closed form go automatically to the web address you chose. For example, you can send them to your main giving form or to your website so they can still support your organization.

  • If you didn't set up a redirect — Visitors view the standard page that lets them know the form is closed.

To choose where visitors go when they open a closed form, turn on the redirect setting in your form's General settings. For detailed instructions, read Redirect Supporters Who View Closed Forms, Auctions, and Peer-to-Peer Campaigns.

Note: If you embedded the donation form on another site, that site continues to show its closed message instead of redirecting.
