Geolocation allows you to track the exact location at which volunteers check in and out for an opportunity. When geolocation is enabled, Bloomerang Volunteer records the latitude and longitude when a volunteer checks in or out using the Bloomerang Volunteer mobile app. Managers can then run reports against location data, which helps verify that volunteers were onsite during an opportunity.
Enable Geolocation
To enable geolocation:
Add at least one venue and location. For more information about adding and verifying venues and locations, read Create Venues and Locations.
After you create the opportunity’s venues and locations, within the opportunity navigation menu, click Controls.
Select Time Tracking.
On the Time Tracking page, enable either General Attendance or Shift Attendance. For more information about these attendance types, read General Check-in/Check-out vs. Shift Check-in/Check-out.
Under your chosen attendance type, enable Self Check-in/out. You can only enable Self Check-in/out for one attendance type at a time.
On the same page, locate and enable Geolocation Tracking.
Follow the next steps to configure more location-based settings.
Note: In order for geolocation to work with the mobile app, volunteers must allow the mobile app to access their location.
Configure Attendance Location
When you enable the Geolocation Tracking option, additional location-based settings appear on the page. You can select a venue and attendance location, customize its location on the map, and set an allowed check-in/check-out radius.
To configure the check-in location for your opportunity:
In the list of check-in areas, select the location for your opportunity. If the location is not shown in the list, click the tracking drop-down list and select the appropriate attendance type, or select All Attendance Tracking to show all locations.
(Optional) Click and drag the pin on the map to set the exact attendance location. Click Save to save the new location.
(Optional) Expand the units drop-down list to select a unit of measurement.
Click Adherence Radius to customize the maximum distance away from the attendance location that volunteers should be allowed to check in and out. If volunteers check themselves in or out outside this radius, the discrepancy will be included in an attendance report.
Run Attendance Reports
Geolocation data appears in different volunteer reports, depending on whether you enabled General Attendance or Shift Attendance for your opportunity:
If you enabled General attendance, geolocation attendance data appears in General Check-in/out by Volunteer reports.
If you enabled Shift Attendance, geolocation attendance data appears in Shift Check-in/out by Volunteer reports.
To generate a report that shows geolocation attendance data:
If you are in more than one organization, make sure you are in the right one.
From the navigation menu, click Opportunities.
Select an opportunity, or use the search box to find and select an opportunity.
From the opportunity navigation menu, click Reports.
In the Reports: Hours Worked section, find either the General Check-in/out by Volunteer or the Shift Check-in/out by Volunteer report.
Click Download to generate and download the report.
The Check-in Adherence Flag and Check-out Adherence Flag columns indicate whether volunteers were inside or outside the adherence radius when they checked in or out. If a volunteer checked in or out outside the adherence radius, these columns will contain Outside Radius messages.
