About the 24-Hour Hold for Journey Automation

Updated this week

After a transaction is created, Bloomerang CRM waits 24 hours before entering constituents into donation automations. This 24-hour hold gives you time to correct transactions and merge duplicate accounts so constituents enter the automation you intend them to. The hold also allows time for constituents to receive an email receipt before an automation sends an email acknowledgement.

How It Works

24-Hour Hold Begins

If a transaction qualifies a constituent to enter a donation automation, Bloomerang CRM holds that transaction for 24 hours. These are transactions that were:

  • Created within the last 24 hours, and

  • Have a donation date within the last 30 days

During the 24-hour hold:

  • The constituent doesn’t enter a donation automation for that transaction.

  • You can audit and edit transactions to make sure they’re finalized.

  • You can find and merge duplicate constituent accounts to make sure constituents enter the appropriate donation automation.

  • Transaction edits can affect whether the constituent enters a donation automation after the hold expires. For example, if you change the donation date to more than 30 days ago, or if you change the constituent account type from Individual to Organization, the constituent won’t enter an automation after the hold expires.

  • Once a transaction is on hold, it remains on hold for the full 24 hours regardless of any changes you make to the transaction.

24-Hour Hold Expires

After 24 hours, the hold expires. Bloomerang CRM then evaluates whether the transaction qualifies the constituent to enter a donation automation.

Changes to Transactions Not On Hold

If a transaction initially doesn’t meet the hold criteria, it doesn’t enter the hold, and the constituent doesn’t enter a donation automation. However, if you edit the transaction, that change might qualify the transaction to enter the hold or immediately enter the constituent into a donation automation.

For example, your organization manually enters a donation, imports a donation, or syncs a donation from Bloomerang Fundraising (formerly Qgiv) or another integration. If the donation date is over 30 days ago, the transaction doesn’t enter the 24-hour hold. You later edit the transaction:

  • Within 24 hours of creating the donation, you edit the donation date so it’s within the last 30 days. The transaction then enters the 24-hour hold.

  • Over 24 hours after creating the donation, you edit the donation date so it’s within the last 30 days. The transaction skips the hold and immediately enters an automation.
