What is a Role Manager?

Role Managers help break down the responsibilities of managing your Volunteers on Opportunity day. Learn how to use Role Managers to your advantage.

Role Managers are essentially supervisors for particular Roles in your Opportunity. You can assign this responsibility to your Volunteers to ensure each Role, or group of Roles, is being overseen and managed by someone. Role Managers have the following permissions in Bloomerang Volunteer:

By default, Role Managers can:

  • View and edit Volunteers in their Role(s)

  • View and schedule Volunteers in their Role(s), and create Shifts for the Role(s)

  • View and edit Role descriptions

  • View, create, use (but not delete) Qualifications

  • Add new Roles to an Event

By default Role Managers cannot:

  • View all Volunteers in the Event

  • View the master schedule

  • View Event-related settings

  • View Venues & Locations tab

To make a user a Role Manager in an opportunity:

  1. If you are in more than one organization, make sure you are in the right one.

  2. From the navigation menu, click Opportunities.

  3. Select an opportunity, or use the search box to find and select an opportunity.

  4. In the opportunity menu, click People, and then click Volunteers.

  5. From the Volunteers list, select the volunteer you want to make a Role Manager.

  6. In the volunteer’s opportunity profile, click Roles.

  7. Click Take Action, and then click Add Role Manager.

  8. Select the checkboxes for the roles the Role Manager will oversee.

  9. Click Add.

To edit the permissions for a Role Manager in an opportunity:

  1. If you are in more than one organization, make sure you are in the right one.

  2. From the navigation menu, click Opportunities.

  3. Select an opportunity, or use the search box to find and select an opportunity.

  4. In the opportunity menu, click People, and then click Volunteers.

  5. From the Volunteers list, select the volunteer you want to make a Role Manager.

  6. In the volunteer’s opportunity profile, click Roles.

  7. Click Role Manager Settings.

  8. Select the permissions you want for this Role Manager, and then click Save.

    Note: All Role Managers start with the permission to view only the volunteers they manage.
