How Do Failed Payments Affect Revenue? (Legacy)

Bloomerang CRM

Updated over 2 weeks ago

On the Payment Failures dashboard, two totals show you how failed and recaptured payments are affecting your revenue this year:

  • Fiscal Year (FY) Revenue At Risk

  • Fiscal Year (FYI) Revenue Recaptured

Does this information apply to me?

  • When you click Payments and then Payments Home, if you see the Payment Failures tab, the payment failures dashboard appears. Read this article for information about the dashboard metrics.

  • If you see the Transaction Failures tab instead of the Payment Failures tab, these dashboard metrics don't appear.

Fiscal Year (FY) Revenue At Risk

To calculate the FY Revenue At Risk total, Bloomerang CRM:

  • Adds current failed payments from autoprocessing credit cards plus all future payments in this fiscal year for those recurring donation, pledge, and membership schedules.

  • Divides the sum by the total projected recurring revenue for this fiscal year.

For example, two months are left in the fiscal year. A $10 payment fails, which means $20 is at risk for the fiscal year ($10 over two months). The total projected recurring revenue for this fiscal year is $1000. The FY Revenue At Risk totals shows $20 at risk.

Fiscal Year (FYI) Revenue Recaptured

To calculate the FY Revenue Recaptured total, Bloomerang CRM:

  • Adds total dollars retained that could have been lost if payment failures were not resolved. The retained dollars are from recurring donation, pledge, and membership schedules with any payment method.

  • Divides by the total projected at-risk recurring revenue for this fiscal year. For each recurring donation, pledge, or membership schedules, the projected at-risk recurring revenue starts from the first failed payment.

For example, you resolve a $10 payment failure for the last two months in the fiscal year. This means you recapture $20 that was at risk this fiscal year. The total projected at-risk recurring revenue for this fiscal year is $20. The FY Revenue Recaptured total is $20.
