Identifying major gifts prospects in your Bloomerang database is the first step towards using Bloomerang for moves management. Use Bloomerang and other tools at your disposal to identify prospects within your database, so that you can begin cultivating major gifts.

Major Gifts

A major gift is a one-time gift that is much larger than the gifts an organization normally receives. The size of a major gift will vary from organization to organization. A major gift might even be a transformational gift, which can fundamentally change an organization for the better.

Major gifts are important because they can positively impact projected revenue, improve the sustainability of the organization, and create constituent buy-in.

Major gifts can be one-time, a pledge, or even a planned gift.

Identifying Prospects

The first step towards cultivating major gifts is to identify the prospects in your organization who have the interest and giving capacity to become major donors. Engagement Level is a great indicator of how active a constituent is with your organization, while the Generosity Score rates a constituent’s overall giving capacity using data from DonorSearch.

Bloomerang has a report template, High Potential Donors, that you can use to get started identifying your prospects. The report shows all of your constituents who have either a Hot or On Fire! Engagement Level or Generosity Score. You can adjust the template as needed, adding different filters or columns, to bring any specific needs into focus in the report.

Prospect Identification Tools

In addition to the tools already available in Bloomerang, you can request ProspectView or Batch Screening to harness the full potential of DonorSearch data in your database. While each database has Generosity Scores available to report on, ProspectView will allow you to view public wealth and the giving history of your constituents in DonorSearch. Batch Screening goes a step further and pulls DonorSearch data into your Bloomerang database, further informing you during the prospect identification process.
