Report on Year-Over-Year Giving

Updated over a week ago

Use a constituent report to see which of your constituents have given at least once in a specified time period, and add a column to see total giving in each time period, as well. You'll be able to compare a constituent's yearly giving side-by-side.

You'll also see if a constituent has any gaps in their yearly giving. You can use these reports to send letters and emails.

In this article:

Start With a Report Template

The Loyal Donors report template is a great place to start when you want to report on year-over-year giving. Begin with this template and modify it to suit your needs.

You can access a new Loyal Donors report by logging in to Bloomerang CRM and following this link. Or, to access the report from within Bloomerang CRM, follow these steps:

  1. Click Reports.

  2. Click New Reports.

  3. Click Loyal Donors.

By default, the Loyal Donors report filters to include constituents that are individuals and who gave a donation, pledge payment, or recurring donation payment between 2019 and 2024. It excludes any constituents marked deceased in Bloomerang CRM.

Also by default, the columns show the name, the sum of lifetime revenue, the number of all revenue transactions, the year-to-date revenue, and the cumulative revenue by year for the last five years for each constituent.

Note: Since this is a constituent report, the filters set the criteria to display (or not display) a constituent in the report. The columns, however, have the ability to show information that may exist "outside" of the filters. For example, the report may filter to include constituents that have transactions during a specific year, but a column can display revenue amounts from any year.

Create Your Own

To build your own report from scratch, follow the steps below. For this example, we’ll run a report to see which constituents gave at least once during a specific two-year period. We'll then add columns for annual revenue.

  2. Click New Report.

  3. Click Start from Scratch.

  4. Select Constituents.

  5. Customize your report by adding filters and columns.

For the example in this article, select Constituents.

Add Filters

  2. Click Number, and select Sum.

  3. Click Amount, then select Revenue Amount.

  5. Under Include, click Add Filter, then search for and select Date.

  6. Click During, and select Between.

  7. Enter the dates for the first year period and then click OK.

  10. Click Add Column, then search for and select Has Transactions.

  11. Click Number, and select Sum.

  12. Click Amount, then select Revenue Amount.

  13. Click All Transactions., and select Has Specific Transactions.

  14. Under Include, click Add Filter, then search for and select Date.

  17. Click OK again.

  18. Click this column header, and rename it for that year, then click OK.

Keep adding columns until you have one for each year period that you are looking for, then save your report.

Tip: To view giving by household, click Constituent where it says Constituent Filters, then select Household. The report will be filtered by combined giving of all members of a household. This does not affect constituents who are not in a household.
